Servicing Medical Equipment Using Refurbished Replacement Parts

Are you wondering if it is safe to buy refurbished linear accelerators?  Thanks to the unrelenting spirit of radiation technology expert’s linear accelerators continue to maintain their place among the most sophisticated tools in the treatment of cancer.  They produce and deliver radiation with the utmost precision and thus are one of the main equipment sources in our fight against cancer.  In order to stay within a budget for medical equipment, medical facilities often consider refurbished equipment such as linear accelerators.

A refurbished linear accelerator does not mean that the machine is faulty or ineffective.  In fact many times a refurbished linear accelerator is tested more thoroughly then new OEM equipment.  A refurbished linear accelerator may have been used, parts replaced but still in pristine conditions.  The machine might have been used in one of the largest institution and perhaps it has been sold because they have upgraded theirs or have proceeded with a new machine or option in treatment.
There are many reasons to invest in a refurbished linear accelerator.  It allows you to meet the new challenges in treatment without maximizing the budget on a single piece of machinery.  This is extremely helpful when opening a center, expanding a facility, bringing new treatments to your hospital, when budgeting is crucial.

Refurbished linear accelerators are pretty much essential so having a back up piece of equipment often pays off in a big way.  When your main machinery fails your facility will not experience a stall in treatment because you have furnished your facility with a spare refurbished linear accelerator.
When you are able to invest in more machinery your facility may be able to offer more and better treatment.  The new refurbished equipment will allow your medical facility to turn into the go-to location for treatment therefore leading to expansion.

Refurbished medical equipment allows facilities to have peace of mind.  Reliable equipment that has been tested relentlessly can live up to providing proper treatment to patients.  When equipment needs to be maintained hiring a specialized medical equipment service company is important.  Many times refurbished components can actually be used to maintain and repair equipment.
Outsourcing medical equipment repairs also saves companies money as they are not required to keep a technician on staff. A reliable repair team that is able to service your machinery as repairs and maintenance are needed remain a part of the crucial aspects of ensuring the prosperity of your facility and the positive results of treatment.

Boost the Healthcare Services You Can Provide By Financing the Equipment You Need

Health care equipment costs are continuing to increase. The high cost of medical equipment required for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases makes every medical care unit pause to think about the purchase and create a plan to manage the financial side of buying equipment.
When planning to acquire any medical equipment, the points which need proper consideration and evaluation are as follows.
  • The type of equipment needed
  • The budget for medical equipment
  • The cost of each individual piece
  • The cost of maintaining the equipment
  • The possibility of purchasing refurbished medical equipment
  • The ability to acquire a machine with reduced capacity
Once all of these things are taken into consideration it is important that the medical facility choose the right partner to finance the deal to make sure you are getting the most bang for your dollar.
Check into Alternatives
While considering financing options for medical equipment such as linear accelerators and CT scanners facilities may have to think about all affordable alternatives available because equipment is costly and a high part of the total cost of new projects within the hospital.  It is also important to note that the equipment is also not simple or inexpensive to operate.  This encourages the emergence of the refurbished medical equipment industry.

There are a number of reasons to consider refurbished medical equipment.  If the number of patients that you will be seeing and treating is significantly high facilities may want to consider a brand new linear accelerator.  If the number of patients is starting small, in hopes for the expansion of services the choice to find a high quality refurbished linear accelerator.

Buying or financing a refurbished piece reduces the burden on the overall budget for the project, will allow you to treat more patients while working to expand the size of your medical facility and treat your patients better by using those extra financial resources that have been saved by not purchasing new medical equipment.

Financing Companies
Once the decision has been made to purchase a new or refurbished medical device facilities should seek the help of the right financing company for the project.  There are a number of companies that will help you to reach the right decision on the right piece of equipment for your facilities needs.  They guarantee the latest state of the art version of the equipment of international standards, the newest upgrades, complete transportation and set up of the equipment, testing, and training of the personnel to ensure that the equipment is ready for use.  The financer is there to back you in case of any operational or maintenance difficulty.

Many finance companies also allow for a partial initial payment and deferred or regular installments later to enable companies to manage their budgets well.  Many of them offer a completely customized project to specifically meet your needs.  They also offer to handle the complicated tax implications in such a way that the facility will only have to pay the minimum required taxes.

Leasing Equipment
Financing oncology equipment again requires a plan on lines similar to financing for new or refurbished linear accelerators.  The only difference is that the cost of other oncology equipment may not be as high as linear accelerators or CT scanners.  Medical facilities can be more at ease when planning to lease or purchase less costly equipment.

There are many financing companies that offer a turnkey project, financial incentives, training, and maintenance back-up deferred payments.  It is even possible to lease equipment.  This reduces the capital requirement and allows medical facilities flexibility in their healthcare venture.  Some of them offer terms that enable facilities to pay for the equipment from the fees that are collected by treating patients with that equipment.

Another advantage in financing linear accelerators or other oncology equipment is that the facility will be disciplined in their profession. Medical facilities will think more carefully about what is needed right now verse what can be put on hold for a bit.  Facilities learn to handle their finances knowing the exact time and amount due.

Relocating Medical Equipment is a Job For Specialists

Medical equipment has evolved enormously over the past half a century. In addition to entirely new machines, new improved versions of older equipment keep being introduced all the time.  So there arises a constant need to shift old equipment to a different location and commission the latest version in your premises. Also, more and more medical facilities are coming up across the world making it frequently necessary to install a complete new set of medical equipment.

Handling medical equipment is no simple matter. The equipment can be quite bulky in size as it has to accommodate the patient, who is being examined or treated. It is usually quite delicate too. A machine from the technologically advanced era is bound to have many electrical, electronic and digital aspects. The equipment often has many separate parts. And medical equipment is almost always quite costly. So it has to be handled carefully so that it is spared any damage, even a small one, during transport and installation. Obviously, we need specialized experts to install and commission all new medical equipment.

A linear accelerator facilitates external radiation treatment for cancer patients. It can treat every organ of the human body. A linear accelerator is a big machine. Relocating linear accelerators is a job best left to the experts who specialize in such jobs. They will be able to de-install the equipment at the present site, pack it in the right type of crates designed for the equipment, transport them to the new site, care specifically for each part of the accelerator during the entire process, reinstall it at the new site, commission it and test it adequately to ensure that it is functioning properly.

Relocating CT scanners is again a job that should be entrusted to people who are logistic specialists in the field. It is a large machine. It prepares pictures of parts of the patient’s body using X-rays, while the patient is lying on the CT scanner table. The scanners are computerized. Any such relocation needs a well-informed agency equipped with proper packing and transporting amenities handled by experts familiar with the machine.

The oncology branch of medicine involves prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of all types of cancer. It uses an extensive range of equipment including various types of radiation equipment. So relocating oncology equipment becomes a specialized job that demands experts in that field. These experts not only have a clear idea about the machine they are handling but they also have the right type of system to perform the job in the best and quickest possible way.

Relocating medical equipment has become a complicated job, needing a group of specialized persons to handle it. Such groups know the job thoroughly and have the means to handle the process competently. They also ensure that they do the job in the least possible time, and without disrupting the other functioning of the medical unit. Many of such groups can work in post-office hours and through the night so that the unit functions normally most of the time.

The Working Procedure of the Equipment

Each of the radiation oncology equipment works varies but the principle is the same. The Linear Accelerator (LINAC) microwave technology which is similar to that used for radar is designed in such a way that electrons move in a part of the accelerator called the "wave guide." It is the wave guide that allows these electrons to collide with a heavy metal target which now produces high-energy x-rays.

Next, the energized x-rays take up a shape that fits the patient’s tumour as they flow out from the machine. The customized x-ray is directed to the patient who is already lying down on the moveable treatment couch where lasers help to keep the patient in a position that is most suitable. The beam is emitted through a gantry that can be rotated around the patient. The tumour could be target from any angle by rotating the gantry and the treatment couch.

Maintenance of Radiation Oncology Equipment
For your radiation oncology equipment such as CT scanners and linear accelerators to work at optimum capacity it is advisable you use the machine carefully and also use it according to the manufacturers’ guidelines.

Radiation oncology equipment needs constant check-up and maintenance. If the equipment is faulty, it can affect the force of the radiation that you feel and this can be dangerous to both the technician and the patient.  If the air-filter has holes, it should be constantly cleaned and free from dust.
You will need the input of a radiology equipment technician who can review the error logs, provide much needed maintenance and repairs. You may occasional check for connections, test the image quality, clean the fans, grease bearings, and backup your system data but most maintenance is best left up to professional medical equipment technicians.

In conclusion, you may need to replace some parts of the equipment to get effective therapy from your radiation oncology equipment. Before you feel your treatment is no longer at an optimum level get your service technician out to perform maintenance.

The Use of Radiation Equipment in Treating Cancer

Each year around 14 million cases of cancer spring up globally. It is estimated that radiation therapy heals 3.5 million people and provides palliative relief for another 3.5 million people. These approximations have been made based on the fact that radiation therapy has benefitted over 50 percent of all cancer patients.

What Is Radiation Therapy?

Radiation therapy employs the high-energy particles or waves, such as X-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or protons to kill the cancer cells. The radiation is delivered by the linear accelerators which customize the high-energy x-rays or protons to adhere to the tumor's shape and eliminate cancer cells but being mindful of the surrounding normal tissue. The radiation might be delivered from outside the body or a radioactive material placed inside the body near the cancer cells. This is called internal radiation therapy or brachytherapy.

The systematic radiation therapy makes use of radioactive substances that travel in the blood killing the cancer cells. One such element is the radioactive iodine.
Almost all the cancer patients use radiation during their treatment period. These radiations deploy oncology equipment to operate the patients.

How Does Radiation Therapy Kill Cancer Cells?

The rays from the linear accelerator destroy the DNA of the cells. Either it destroys the DNA itself or creates charged particles within the cells to do the damaging. The ruined DNA is unable to repair itself or divide. The linear accelerator uses electricity forming a stream of fast moving particles.
The linear accelerator or LINAC is cures cancers of all types. Patients lie on an adjustable and movable couch. With the help of spatially calibrated lasers and X-ray imaging panels the beam in maneuvered. The couch too can be adjusted with sub-millimeter accuracy.
The several other oncology equipment employed are:
  • 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT)
Many sophisticated machines and software target the affected region by this method.
  • Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy
Several tiny radiation beam-shaping devices, called collimators, deliver a single dose of radiation. These devices might be stationary or move in order to control the intensity. IMRT is planned in reverse, which means the oncologist picks the radiation dose to different areas of the tumor and surrounding tissue. After this, a high-powered computer program calculates the required number of beams for the treatment.
  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy
Iterative image scans are performed which are then processed by computers to identify the size and location of the tumor. The treatment and dosage is then done accordingly. This method increases the accuracy of the treatment.

These are just a few of the many forms of the oncology equipment the doctor’s use. The doctors though have to be careful about the dosage, one dose of the total dosage given. That is twice a day. Doctors have to be careful since
  • The damage to the normal tissues should be minimized.
  • To ensure that the likelihood of the radiation hitting the DNA of the cancer cell are on the point where damage would be maximum.
Patients receive radiation before, during or after the surgery. After the treatment the patients receive a follow-up by their oncologist to monitor their health.

It's important to search for cost-effective ways to invest limited capital, so before upgrading your oncology medical equipment, consider the following tips

Smart Financing
Paying money for the upgrade of oncology equipment can be attractive; it has the setback of cutting into your working capital that you may require for other expenditure. Strict leases are a good choice for bringing down the upfront cost associated with the upgrade of equipment and shielding your organization from future tech discoveries that may make the new equipment to be obsolete. Loans are another great choice, yet both lease and loan include interest rate that increases the equipment final cost. In lieu these, consider capitalizing equipment cost over time and recording equipment as an asset. These promoted expenses can incorporate most of the logistic cost associated with oncology medical equipment.

Go for the Warranty
The upgrade of oncology equipment can be expensive. To guarantee that oncology equipment is not unintentionally repaired at a high cost, it is imperative for your department to monitor what is under warranty and have that information readily available.

Provide thorough explanations for expenditures
The budgetary demands of your department will be subject to the endorsement or dissatisfaction with the financial department. Giving clear clarifications of why you're settling on a specific budgetary choice for your oncology medicinal equipment and how it will impact overall performance of your healthcare delivery.

Team up with an Equipment Planner
A medical equipment planner has the information and experience to help evaluate your organization's needs alongside the total ownership cost of oncology equipment, and also guaranteeing everything adjusts to local regulations.

Equipment Delivery Process
Research merchants and wholesalers can select equipment that offers an excellent track record. A decent merchant will guarantee that everything is legitimately named and that oncology equipment gets conveyed on time and to the desired location.

Involve the Appropriate Departments
Any department that will be regularly interacting with the new equipment ought to participate in the entire capital equipment procurement process. This will shield your organization from purchasing equipment with expensive, unneeded components or functions, and in addition getting you the appropriate feedback for future options.

Examine and Test Before Ownership Transfer

What Type of Radiation Therapy is Right for Me?

Many cancer patients get at least one type of radiation treatment over the span of their treatment. Medical specialists will recommend one of the diverse sorts of radiation treatment as an independent tumor treatment. They could likewise recommend a mix of chemotherapy and radiotherapy depending on your circumstance. No two patient’s conditions, tumor size, area, and stage are the same - that means different treatments requires a unique plan.

Radiation is a standout amongst the most widely used treatments for cancer. Different names for radiation treatment are radiation therapy, x-ray therapy, radiotherapy or irradiation.  The Radiation therapy utilizes high-energy particles or waves, for example, x-beams, protons, gamma beams, or electron rays, to decimate cancer cells.

Your cells regularly develop and shape some new cells.  As always be, tumor cells develop and separates faster than most typical cells. Radiation works by making little breaks in the DNA within cells. These breaks shield growth cells from developing and isolating and destroying them. Some nearby typical cells can likewise be influenced by radiation, yet most recoup and continue working the way they should.

The therapy is not like chemotherapy, which for the most part uncovered the entire body to cancer battling drugs, radiation treatment is typically a type of local treatment. By and large, it targets and influences just the piece of the body being dealt with. Radiation therapy was designed to destroy cancer cells, with as little damage to healthy cells.

Types of Radiation Therapy

1. The External Beam Radiation -
This type is the most widely used sort of radiation treatment. It includes a machine that coordinates high-energy light emissions at cancer cells. The machine enables radiation to be focused at particular destinations, which is the reason specialists utilize external beam radiation for a wide range of cancers. It is painless and is like having an X-Ray taken. This treatment devastates cancer cells and keeps them from separating and growing. Since radiation treatment likewise reaches healthy cells, radiation oncologists partition the treatment into little dosages regulated five times every week. This enables healthy cells to recover.

2. The Internal Radiation-
Internal radiation is likewise called brachytherapy. Here, a radioactive source is put inside the body into or close to the tumor.  With this type of treatment, the radioactive inserts are embedded into the prostate amid surgery. After some time, the radioactive materials will bit by bit kill cancer cells. This implant can be brief or perpetual.  The Brachytherapy is basically utilized for patients with low risk and moderately risky prostrate tumor.

3. The Systemic Radiation Therapy-
These are radioactive treatments given by mouth or put into the vein in order to treat certain sorts of tumor. The treatments at that point go all through the body.  Despite the fact that this kind of radiation travels all through the body, the radioactive substance generally gathers in the region of the tumor, so there's little impact on whatever is left of the body.

As you can see, type of radiation therapy you may get relies upon the kind of cancer/tumor you have and where it is located. In some cases, more than one type of radiation therapy is utilized.

How to Upgrade LINAC Systems on a Budget

When you're researching an upgrade path to your LINAC system, consider all the necessary factors to ensure the continued success of your practice. LINAC machines are essential to every practice that prides itself on providing a complete care solution for their patients.
LINAC machines are understandably complex and rather expensive devices. If budget is a primary concern, then one angle you should consider for your upgrade path is the purchase of a Refurbished LINAC machine.

LINAC machines are not mass produced, as all are handmade, which means that each unit will have unique idiosyncrasies regardless of the manufacturer. As each device is unique from any other, the service history is an all-important consideration to go through before purchase.
Check the beam hours to determine how hard the machine has worked each day. Perform a physical check to carefully examine the device and speak with the clinicians who used the machine on a daily basis.

Refurbishment costs will be a deciding factor in your final choice. There are two types of refurbishment; mechanical and cosmetic. A machine that looks the part in your practice is important, but it's the mechanical refurbishment that will have the biggest impact on total cost of ownership. Ensure that you have a written record of the services that have been performed.
Another important consideration with a refurbished LINAC system is the installation process. The install team will need to be suitably experienced and understand the machine at both a hardware and software level. Check that guarantees are in place to protect you should your LINAC system fail to meet manufacturer specifications.

The ongoing operation of your linear accelerator will depend on your level of equipment support. Many facilities will opt for the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) to perform all of their maintenance tasks.  Refurbished linear accelerators must meet OEM standards before they are able to be sold.  When service is performed whether by OEM certified repair technicians or an independent source you will want to ensure that the machine passes OEM acceptance test procedures.
Third party support is always an option for cost savings, but you will need an uptime guarantee in place, along with a minimum response time during emergencies.  If a refurbished LINAC is your upgrade path of choice keep the above in mind and you will ensure a long-life for your machine and peace-of-mind for you.

Lіnеаr Accelerators Uѕеd Fоr Radiation Therapy

A lіnеаr ассеlеrаtоr (LINAC) іѕ thе device mоѕt соmmоnlу uѕеd for external bеаm rаdіаtіоn trеаtmеntѕ for раtіеntѕ with саnсеr. Thе linear ассеlеrаtоr is uѕеd tо treat аll parts/organs оf the bоdу. It dеlіvеrѕ hіgh-еnеrgу x-rays or еlесtrоnѕ to thе rеgіоn оf thе patient's tumоr. These treatments саn be dеѕіgnеd in ѕuсh a way thаt thеу destroy thе саnсеr сеllѕ while ѕраrіng thе surrounding nоrmаl tіѕѕuе. The LINAC іѕ used tо trеаt all bоdу sites, using соnvеntіоnаl techniques, Intеnѕіtу-Mоdulаtеd Rаdіаtіоn Thеrару (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arс Therapy (VMAT), Imаgе Guided Rаdіаtіоn Therapy (IGRT), Stеrеоtасtіс Rаdіоѕurgеrу (SRS) and Stеrеоtасtіс Bоdу Rаdіо Therapy (SBRT).

A Linear accelerator usually referred to as LINAC, have become the standard technique for producing electrons and protons for radiation therapy treatments, producing energy for external beam radiation treatments for cancer. Linear accelerators are highly programmed, computer-powered systems that deliver accurate and controlled radiation to treat cancer patients.

Linac Stereotactic Radiosurgery is a treatment in which high-energy X-rays are used to kill cancerous tumors. A linear accelerator LINAC creates photons by accelerating electrons along a linear path where they collide with a metal target. This produces a single, intense photon beam. CyberKnife, on the other hand, is not a real knife as one may presume. It is in fact a piece of advanced machinery that treats tumors, Medical and other conditions. This Robotic Radiosurgery system is a boon for cancer patients searching for a non-surgical and painless option.
Comparing these two in terms of accuracy, CyberKnife offers the accuracy level of sub-millimeter to the targeted area for tumor shrinking and killing. Linac Stereotactic Radiosurgery, however, assures accuracy level of a millimeter to deliver high doses of Gamma rays and X-rays (using multi-modality approach) to the targeted area.

In terms of flexibility, CyberKnife offers a frameless system that improves flexibility for both patient and the Oncologist. Linac Stereotactic Radiosurgery, on the other hand, requires a Stereotactic frame to be fixed to the patient's head. Thus, the flexibility for patient and oncologists is restricted.
Obviously, they both treat cancer, but the type of cancer they treat differs. CyberKnife is a suitable option for all types of tumors that require advanced or mild treatment. Whether it is an adult, older person or a kid, the treatment can be taken by anyone. Linac Stereotactic Radiosurgery, however, is useful for treating brain cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, metastatic cancer, spine cancer, and other types of cancerous tumors.

CyberKnife requires only sessions as few as 1-5 from the commencement of the treatment. Depending on the health and condition of the patient, a single session can cure the tumor, thereby eliminating the need for multiple visits and hospital expenses. Multiple sessions may be required for the patient undergoing Linac Stereotactic surgery depending on the health condition and treatment. Also, hospital stay and surgery may be required if the previous results have not been satisfactory.
Based on cost, since CyberKnife is capable of curing tumors in as few as 1-5 sessions, the cost of the overall treatment, including hospital visits, stays and recovery reduce significantly, making it an affordable option. The cost of Linac Stereotactic Radiosurgery treatment, however, varies in nature depending on the sessions (depending on the condition of the tumor and patient), surgery and hospital stay if required. The cost effectiveness depends upon the duration of treatment.
So what are their benefits? The CyberKnife takes care of the patient's comfort without Anesthesia shots and requiring the framing. This offers flexible positioning, accurate detection of tumor and its removal in real time.

Conventional Linac system is capable of targeting voluminous tumors also. Besides, the treatment can be done in a single session. However, the system featuring a Conventional linear accelerator, which has only rotational movement in one plane, does not have a virtual motion and targeting capability in 3D space around the patient. Also, for treating tumors that move with respirations, the patient needs to breathe and hold which may be slightly uncomfortable than getting treatment in free breathing like in CyberKnife.

Should Medical Facilities Outsource Medical Equipment Maintenance & Repairs?

Healthcare facilities often outsource their equipment support services to ensure medical equipment is always up and running. However, with health care costs being continually cut and medical funding reduced, many healthcare facilities have now been forced to look for ways to pay for operational costs more wisely.  This is done by improving the equipment maintenance and repair processes, thus ensuring the long-term reliability of the repaired equipment.
Outsourcing medical equipment can have a significant impact on a healthcare facility’s bottom line. This in part is due to the increased sophistication and specialization of equipment such as the refurbished linear accelerators, otherwise known as LINAC, as well as the integration with electronic networks, and the ever-increasing requirements for compliance, safety, reliability and accuracy.
Having an in-house by clinical engineer already on staff to work on simple adjustments and minor repairs can be more costly than paying an outside vendor.  Although it does empower clinical engineers to conduct as many repairs in-house as possible and provides a great opportunity for healthcare facilities to prevent downtime when waiting for an outside technician to get to the hospital.
On the other hand, outsourcing can eliminate the need to hire in-house resources. Therefore labor costs and operational costs can be minimized to a great extent. Instead of hiring an in-house engineer, a medical facility can hire a vendor only on a need be basis. The hired vendor will handle all resourcing needs by tapping into their pool of highly skilled, trained and certified technicians and depending on the facility’s size and levels of technology, outsourcing is beneficial because it will eliminate additional costs such as having a customer service call center and a technical helpdesk. This will not only improve operations but investing in an outsourced program will decrease the costs of managing clinical assets by using a strategic approach to servicing medical equipment.
There are many new independent firms with clinical engineering expertise and comprehensive medical equipment maintenance of the modern, sophisticated and high-end medical equipment that healthcare organizations can benefit from. The probability is that an in-house engineer would cost a hospital just as much as a hired vendor. Why not capitalize on the quality resources and support of such specialists, because medical devices continue to grow in sophistication with every passing day and the need for highly skilled service technicians will drastically increase in the near future.
Hiring a skilled outside vendor will ensure that you have one at your beck-and-call at all times. Nowadays, outside vendors offer remote service options to medical facilities, where the inside technician/ engineer lacks the scope of training needed to successfully implement a modern day equipment maintenance or is unable to do a sufficient job to a certain degree.
In addition to that, outsourced clinical engineering programs have the ability to track equipment inventory in real-time such as the equipment’s age and condition, its failure rate, and preventative maintenance scheduling. This is just a few more reasons to outsource medical equipment maintenance.

Benefits of Contracting a Private Medical Equipment Repair Company

There are a number of benefits that come with outsourcing medical equipment repairs. Technicians are trained to fix a countless number of medical devices. This ensures the hospital or medical center has access to professional technicians with expertise on any number of medical devices. Medical equipment never gives an advance notice for when it is going to stop functioning as it is intended. Outsourcing medical equipment repair ensures that you have a professional technician at a moment’s notice. To expect an in-house program to posses the scope of training that is needed to be successful in implementing repairs to a various number of different medical devices is a lot to ask. It is difficult to anticipate issues that will arise when it comes to complicated medical equipment such as linear accelerators and CT Scanners. Medical equipment is complicated by big data and oftentimes driven by compliance thus making it pertinent that it is repaired quickly and correctly. Independent linear accelerator companies provide services to a variety of companies that manufacture equipment such as Varian, Siemens, and Elekta linear accelerators. Since they are independent of the manufacturer they offer an advantage to clients because they are able to objectively aid in project repairs without vendor bias. They are also able to facilitate when it comes to purchasing equipment. Independent medical repair companies often associate with companies that offer new and refurbished equipment for sale incase repairs are unable to be accomplished at a reasonable price in a timely manner. There are a number of benefits to outsourcing medical equipment repairs such as reduced costs and higher quality. Reduced Costs The obvious benefit of contracting medical repair services is the decreased cost of operations that an experienced technician offers. Contracting outside sources eliminates the necessity to hire resources within the hospital. In house specialists not only require a salary but continued training that can be expensive. Hiring a company that provides the services you need when you need them can offer a standardized approach to repairs within your facility. This ensures the most economical approach at repair equipment quickly while providing patients with top notch equipment and abundant treatment options. Quality Medical equipment maintenance specialists render instance access to the highest level of technicians available for even the most complex medical devices. Independent service technicians are device trained often directly from the OEM. Technicians are provided with current service manuals, test fixtures, symptomatic tools, and they can participate during an ongoing training for highly enhanced medical equipment. It is extremely costly to expect in house technicians to have up to date training on the vast array of medical devices. An in house tech may be able to adequately maintain devices to a degree but detailed repairs should be left to trained professionals specializing in medical equipment repairs. Compact linac designed for proton therapy

A design for a compact, fully linear accelerator for proton therapy has been developed by researchers at CERN. The linear design offers a higher beam quality than circular medical accelerators but – thanks to its high accelerating gradient – has a similar footprint (Phys. Rev. Accel. Beams 20 040101). The TULIP all-linac design Hadron therapy uses beams of high-energy particles, such as protons, to kill off tumours. Presently there are two types of particle accelerator used for hadron treatments: cyclotrons and synchrotrons. Both are circular accelerators, with the former using a constant magnetic field and a spiral beam path, and the latter accelerating particles around a fixed, circular orbit that is maintained by increasing the strength of the magnetic field as the particles speed up within the machine. Both accelerator types come with certain disadvantages. Cyclotrons have fixed beam-extraction energies, meaning that to target tumours at different depths within a patient's body, moveable absorbers must be placed in the beam's path to reduce its energy. The drawback of this, however, is that 99% of the beam energy is lost, the absorbers become activated, and beam scattering may generate secondary neutrons that can be hazardous for the patient. While synchrotrons do allow for the tuning of the output beam, adjustments take up to a whole second, making treatment times longer and more uncomfortable for patients. Both of these issues might be overcome by using a linear accelerator instead. The key advantage of linacs over circular accelerators lies in how the energies of their output beams can be adjusted in mere milliseconds with no loss in beam intensity, allowing for quick treatments and no beam scattering. Beams are adjusted by varying the radiofrequency amplitude and phase of the linac's final accelerating structure. Linacs typically come with a major drawback, however: the large space usually required to accommodate them is difficult to find within hospital buildings. A previous solution to this issue, developed by the TERA foundation, combined circular and linear accelerator structures into a so-called "cyclinac" concept. The design – the turning linac for proton therapy (TULIP) – presented a single-room facility enabled by having a commercial cyclotron on the floor, accelerating protons up to tens of MeV, which are then injected into a linac mounted on a rotating frame around the patient, which boosted the particles to 70–230 MeV, suitable for therapeutic use. Cyclotrons and linacs are not entirely compatible, however, being designed for beams with inherently different time structures, resulting in beam losses, instabilities and emittance growth. In a new study, Stefano Benedetti – a physicist at CERN and EPFL – and colleagues present an all-linac twist on the original TULIP design that overcomes these issues, thereby providing a higher beam quality while offering the most compact all-linac proton therapy design to date. "The idea is to have a linac-based proton therapy facility that is as compact as possible, so to have a product that fits, ideally, into already existing hospital buildings, saving on infrastructural costs," says Benedetti. This is achieved thanks to the collaboration between TERA and CERN, which has led to the development of new accelerating structures that can support higher electric fields, and resulting accelerating gradients, without risk of electrical breakdown. The TULIP all-linac design has a footprint of only 9 × 22 m, which would make it comparable with existing single-treatment beam cyclotrons and synchrotrons. The TULIP all-linac would be capable of delivering protons penetrating up to 33 cm into a patient's tissues, which would be comparable with other solutions. At the same time, the design results in particle losses being concentrated at energies below 5 MeV, reducing the shielding requirements in comparison with cyclotron facilities. The researchers are presently testing a prototype of a single accelerating structure – with promising results – and moving to develop similar designs suitable for accelerating carbon ions, but Benedetti says he is unsure whether CERN will develop a full prototype of the TULIP all-linac design. The proposed TULIP all-linac design "could stimulate new and innovative solutions for approaching the design of compact linear accelerators of protons," says Concetta Ronsivalle, a physicist from the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, who was not involved in this study. Ronsivalle notes, however, that "such a delicate application as that of proton therapy will require a reduction of the complexity of the system in order to limit costs, and to increase reliability and operational simplicity." How Do Medical Linear Accelerators Work In The Treatment Of Cancer?

Linear accelerator offer many different medical uses. For example, the radiation put out by linear accelerators can crush the denial of an organ transplant; overpower the immune systems of patient’s blood, in essence the transplant, and correct positive neurological & cardiovascular illnesses.
The medical linear accelerator is a vivid case of what can be accomplished when scholars from different academic disciplines join to solve a problem. This 50-year-old accomplishment was a sign to the multidisciplinary method now named as the translational medicine.  According to the doctors, the linear accelerator is considered to be the most important cases of translational study that has happened globally. Oncology radiation equipment’s only focus on the intense X-rays for destroying a tumor without any sort of harm.
Key advantages of the linear accelerator include:
  • Smaller treatment plans
  • Speediness and accuracy
  • Effortless treatment
  • Nominal damage to close tissue.
Disadvantages of oncology radiation equipment;
  • These equipment’s limits are normally used for one purpose only.
  • Many devices and their related power supplies are compulsory, which expand the expense.
Treating growth is much more propelled today than it was only a couple of years back with a wide range of treatment alternatives accessible. Regularly a patient's treatment plan will call for radiation treatment as it is a standout amongst the most well-known medications for disease.
Radiation treatment is a critical instrument in the battle against tumor with two out of three individuals with growth experiencing some type of radiation treatment as a major aspect of their treatment. Radiation treatment utilizes uncommon gear to send high-vitality particles or waves, for example, x-beams, gamma beams, electron bars or protons to pulverize malignancy cells. It is utilized overwhelmingly for the treatment of strong malignancies.
Radiation treatment can be given in two diverse courses – from outside the body (outer bar radiation treatment) or inside the body (inner radiation treatment - Brachytherapy). Outer radiation treatment normally includes utilizing a machine called a linear accelerator that coordinates high-vitality beams from outside the body into the tumor.
The main utilization of linear accelerator in drug goes back to the 1950s. TrueBeam direct quickening agent is one such propelled machine fit for conveying a wide range of radiation like Intensity Modulated Radiation (IMRT), Image guided radiation (IGRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). These strategies utilize non-obtrusive tumor-annihilating radiation to treat malignancies all through the body while restricting harm to close-by solid tissue.
TrueBeam linear accelerator utilizes leveling channel free (FFF) photon pillars to wreck disease cells. An additional favorable position of utilizing linear accelerators in FFF mode is the stamped increment in measurements rates, up to 1400 MU/min and 2400 MU/min and this shortens abbreviate general treatment delivery time.
The high measurements are communicated with exactness and precision, bringing about the disease cells losing their capacity to imitate and biting the dust. Another principle favorable position of utilizing TrueBeam direct quickening agent is that its imaging framework enables doctors to track the tumor during treatment, despite the tumors movement because of normal breathing.

Four Common Cancer Treatments

Cancer is a truly awful disease that claims countless lives up and down the globe, every single day. As horrible as the disease is, the good news is that we are finally beginning to win the war against cancer, as for the first time in history, more people diagnosed with the disease, are surviving as opposed to passing away. This is all because of the numerous cancer treatment methods and devices currently available to us.

When it comes to treating cancer, choosing an oncology equipment service company is vital as you must ensure your machines and devices are all in full working order. To help get a better idea of how we are now able to treat numerous cancers, below you will find a list looking at four of the most common cancer treatments currently being utilized in medical practices and hospitals all across the globe.

Chemotherapy – When people think of cancer treatment, generally it is chemotherapy that often springs to mind first. Chemotherapy is a type of therapy where specialist drugs are used in an attempt to destroy cancerous cells. The drugs literally poison and destroy the cells, but as they are so powerful, they do cause some pretty awful side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.

Radiation therapy – The reason why it’s so important for medical practices to find oncology equipment service company experts is because many cancer treatment devices rely on them to function correctly. Radiation therapy is another common cancer treatment which utilizes large dosages of radiation to destroy cancerous cells. Linear accelerator machines for example, use x-rays to shrink and destroy cancerous tumours located anywhere on the patient’s anatomy.

Thanks to the advanced technology, linear accelerators can be designed so that they target the cancerous tumours, without harming the healthy cells and tissues surrounding the tumour on the patient. Naturally you want these machines to be in full working order, which is why it’s so vital that you find a reliable oncology equipment service company.

Surgery – Another very common and effective cancer treatment is surgery. With cancer surgery, patients will undergo a specialist procedure in which a surgeon will carefully cut away cancerous cells and/or tumours from their body, to remove it and to prevent it from spreading any further. Many cancer removal surgeries are actually very straightforward and can be completed in a matter of minutes, requiring very little recovery time.

Immunotherapy – Immunotherapy is another example of a very common and effective cancer treatment that is designed to help the body fight cancer from within. With immunotherapy, the immune system of the patient will be used to help fight and destroy cancer from within. The human immune system is the human body’s natural defence against illness and disease; naturally, this can be a very effective treatment.

Things to Know About Radiotherapy

Cancer is a disease which currently affects more than 1 in 2 people, and it’s safe to say that this awful disease destroys lives up and down the world, every single day. Whilst we do look set to finally be winning the war against cancer, there is still a long way to go before we are fully victorious. Thanks to the huge advances in modern technology and modern medicine, currently the treatments used to combat cancer are advancing at an astonishing rate, and are looking more successful than ever.

Linear accelerator services are very highly sought after, due to the fact that radiotherapy is one very common and very effective method of treating cancer. But why are linear accelerator services so popular, and exactly how does radiotherapy work? Well, to help make things a little easier to understand, let’s take a look at a few key facts associated with linear accelerator services, and radiotherapy.

What are linear accelerators? – Linear accelerators, or LINAC machines, are specially created machines which utilize concentrated dosages of x-rays to attack and destroy cancerous tumours located within human bodies. The x-rays are emitted via microwave technology, and actually conform to the exact shape of the cancerous tumour of the patient, which helps ensure that surrounding tissue within the body is well protected.

Facts about radiotherapy – So, as you can see from the above, LINAC machines are very effective for treating cancer, so naturally, linear accelerator services are in very high demand. But do you really know all there is to know about radiotherapy? If not, then take a look at the following, as we now look at a few facts associated with radiotherapy:

Radiotherapy comes in multiple forms – Whilst the most common form of radiotherapy comes as x-rays, other forms include: superficial x-rays, electrons, and brachytherapy. The treatment works as x-rays are able to penetrate the skin and attack the cancerous tumours, destroying cancer cells and hopefully destroying the tumour in the process.

Radiotherapy can last weeks – The exact duration of your radiotherapy treatments will vary according to which form of cancer you may be suffering with, and how advanced it has become. Generally speaking however, most courses of radiotherapy treatments range from 2 weeks up to 4 weeks in total.

Side effects may not appear right away – While radiotherapy produces far fewer side effects than other treatments such as chemotherapy, there are some which may arise. What’s more, most side effects will not appear until several weeks later, after the final radiotherapy session has been completed.

Linear accelerators can be customized accordingly – With linear accelerator services, an oncologist will perform a CT scan and will then send info to the computer, telling it the shape and size of the cancerous tumour. Here, the x-rays will then conform to the exact shape and size of the tumour, and will then be beamed into the patient’s body, to attack the tumour, sparing the surrounding tissue.

Useful Tips for Purchasing a Linear Accelerator

Over the last couple of decades, modern medicine has advanced at a mind-blowing rate. As a result, for the first time ever, survival rates for cancer patients are higher than ever before. Of each person diagnosed with the disease, more people are surviving than losing their lives, and that is hugely encouraging. Cancer treatments are more advanced than ever, especially in terms of radiotherapy. Linear accelerators for example, save countless lives every single day.

If your practice doesn’t yet offer linear accelerator support, you should seriously think about changing things as soon as you can. Linear accelerators emit x-rays to target and destroy cancerous tumours, but purchasing these devices isn’t as simple as you may have thought. Making use of linear accelerator support is more important than ever, so here is a look at a few handy tips for purchasing a linear accelerator (LINAC) for your practice.

Do you want new or used? – As mentioned, LINAC devices are incredibly advanced, and they help save lives every single day. As you can probably imagine, these devices do not come cheap, so you will need to bear this in mind when you decide on which machine to purchase. Ideally for your practice, a brand new machine will be more reliable and may function slightly better too. However, do not think that refurbished LINAC devices should be avoided because if chosen correctly, they can be just as reliable as brand new ones, if not more.  The best part is that they can be purchased for a fraction of the price. Basically, look at your budget and requirements and decide on which machine would be best for your practice.

Speak to the experts – This is where it really pays to contact linear accelerator support, as they will be able to tell you everything you need to know about purchasing your first linear accelerator. Simply tell them the size of your practice, your rough budget, your specifications and requirements, and anything else you deem useful. What’s more, by contacting linear accelerator support, you can also ask questions and get a better understanding about how LINAC machines work, and which model would be best for your practice. Before purchasing any new machines, always speak to the experts first and see what they have to say on the matter.

Read online reviews – As LINAC machines are so popular, and so effective, they are being produced by companies all over the globe, so finding the right device for you can be tricky. With some many devices to choose from, if you are new to the whole LINAC experience, it can be tough knowing where to begin. Ideally you should take a look online and look for popular manufacturers and models of linear accelerator. Here, you should read real reviews left by people who have purchased them for their clinics etc, and see what they have to say. Ideally you want a device with a lot of positive feedback, so take your time, read reviews, and see what others have to say.

How to Find the Best Linear Accelerator Repair Company

Over the last decade or so, modern medicine has advanced at an astonishing rate and as a result of this, for the first time in history more people being diagnosed with various forms of cancer are thankfully surviving, as opposed to losing their lives. Linear accelerators have certainly played a key role in this and these machines are now commonplace in clinics, hospitals, and medical practices all over the globe.

Like most machines it’s important that you repair these devices. This is why linear accelerator repair services are now so highly sought after. The last thing you want is for any of your treatment devices in your clinic to suffer any form of malfunction whatsoever, so finding the best linear accelerator repair services, is essential. When you hire these repair experts however, you need to know that you’re hiring the best company you can find. To help make this process a little easier, below you will find a series of tips based upon finding the best linear accelerator repair services in your region.

Look into several companies – To ensure that your LINAC is in the best possible hands, ideally you will want to look into several companies before you commit to hiring anybody. Remember, there are a good few companies out there now specializing in LINAC repair, and like all businesses, some are better than others. The last thing you want is to find a company is unable to repair your machine, or worse still, find that they have caused further problems, so look into numerous companies in your area, and create a shortlist.

Browse their websites – Once you have a list of several companies specializing in linear accelerator repair, the next thing you should do is start narrowing down your hunt by browsing their websites. Take a look at their websites and see what you can find out. Ideally you should look at which services they provide, how long they have been in business, how much experience they have, which qualifications they have, and anything else that you may deem useful. If the site and company looks amateurish, or if they aren’t too experienced, you may wish to focus your attention onto another company.

Read reviews – The great thing about the web is the fact that people can now review pretty much anything, at any time, so you should be able to find reviews left by previous customers of the repair company in question. Take a look online and see what other medical facilities and treatment centres have to say about the repair company you’re looking into. If there are positive reviews, you’re on the right path, but if there are a fair few negative reviews, you may wish to steer clear as LINAC machines must always be in full working order due to the fact that they play such an important role in the cancer treatment world.

Don’t focus on price – As LINAC machines are so important, and potentially so dangerous, you must ensure that yours are in full working order, so you literally can’t afford to cut corners. If your machine picks up a fault, do not look for the cheapest repair service you can find, instead, look for the most experienced and most professional.

Buying a Refurbished Linear Accelerator

We all know how awful of a disease cancer is, we won’t dwell on that today. What we will focus on however, are the countless treatments and preventative methods which are now commonplace in everyday society that are designed to prevent, treat, and even destroy cancer once and for all. For cancerous tumours, linear accelerators, or LINACS, are incredibly effective. These machines concentrate high dosages of X-rays and fire them into cancerous tumours, to help break down and destroy cancerous cells, whilst making sure to spare any healthy tissue surrounding the affected area.

These machines are so effective in treating cancer and are needed to be functioning properly at all times.  Linear accelerator servicing companies are now more highly sought after than ever before.  The question remains though is it always best to go with a brand new model? If you are a fairly small practice, or if you’re just looking to cut back on spending, rather than buying a brand new model, you could instead go with a refurbished model instead. Here’s a look at a few reasons to go with a refurnished linear accelerators.

Cut back on spending – As you can probably guess, linear accelerators are highly sought after, and because of this, brand new models are very costly. These machines literally save lives, so you can imagine how much they may cost brand new. If you’re looking to expand your medical practice or if you just need to get your costs lower, refurbished linear accelerators will be ideal. You can purchase refurbished linear accelerators for considerably less than brand new ones, and if done correctly, they will work just as well, if not better, than brand new models.

Peace of mind – If you’re a small practice and only have one working machine, purchasing a refurbished model is very highly recommended for a number of reasons, including peace of mind. If for example, your current working machine decided to break down, if you have a second machine on site, this would serve as a fantastic back up and you would still be able to treat your patients, rather than deny them treatments which could potentially save their lives.

Grow your practice – Not only is it important to make use of linear accelerators for your patients, it’s also important to make use of these devices to help grow your practice. Remember, you are still a business and you subsequently will still need to grow and expand to help keep up with patient demand. If you have two or more working LINAC machines on site, you will be able to treat more patients at once, and will therefore be able to grow your practice and expand your business.

Improve other aspects of your business – When you purchase refurbished linear accelerators, you are also helping to improve other aspects of your business. You see, when you save money on this machine, you will free up more money to go into other parts of your practice, subsequently improving it as a result.

For everyone who is not familiar with medical terms and are thinking what in the world is the linear accelerator allow me to explain a little bit more for you. A linear accelerator is a device that imparts high velocity and energy to atomic and subatomic particles. This particular device is super important for radiation therapy along with other areas in the medical and science fields. The linear accelerator is an apparatus used commonly in radiotherapy and the treatment of cancerous tumors.
For all the readers out there who are visual, like I am, the linear accelerator is a device that is used to accelerate radioactive particles that are beamed into different areas body.  The goal of treatment using a LINAC is to target the cancerous tumors while minimizing damage to normal tissue.  You can see how important this device is to both doctors and patients.  The linear accelerator machine will target a specific area and treat that area without causing broad range damage to other areas of the body.
There are many individual parts on a linear accelerator machine that work together in just the right way to allow the machine to function properly.  It is so important that the linear accelerator is functioning properly in order for doctors to diagnosis and treat patients properly.  This is why it’s so vital when you need a repair specialist you choose the right one from the get go.

These treatments often include chemotherapy and radiation machines.
There are a number of medical facilities that are home to machines responsible for providing radiation to cancer patients. They are also known as LINAC systems. Intricate in their technology, it takes lots of investment to buy these systems and maintain them for effective functioning. It can become a real problem for many cancer patients if these systems suddenly stop working. For this purpose, medical facilities are often supported by a linear accelerator service specialist.

Intricate machinery can be unpredictable at times. Often, it is not easy to identify problems and it can take days to restore its function. However, a linear service specialist with quick thinking can either determine the problems soon or provide an alternative solution that will work for the time being. Instead of hiring a separate individual who specializes in this field, it is better to hire the help of a professional company that provides such engineer. Advantages Of Refurbished Medical Equipment

There are a number of advantages that medical facilities will benefit from when buying refurbished medical equipment and supplies over brand new.
Of course the very first advantage seen with buying refurbished linear accelerators or CT scanners or any large scaled item is that it will save you money!  With the cost of large scaled medical equipment reaching easily into the millions we are talking about a significant savings.  A new linear accelerator can costs between three and four million dollars.  Buying a refurbished unit, even at a thirty percent discount saves the facility one point two million dollars.  That is a huge savings!
The one major concern many facilities have is that the savings they are seeing in buying a refurbished unit will be spent on serving the unit.  The truth is that refurbished equipment is just as reliable as brand new equipment with one advantage.  If a refurbished machine breaks down parts and service are more readily available.  Older units are easier to find parts for than newer units simply because they have been around longer.
Manufacturers have become familiar what parts on certain models are more susceptible to needing to be replaced or serviced.  Whereas brand new equipment just being introduced to the market has yet to establish issue that may arise.  In many cases new equipment diagnosis takes longer than refurbished equipment.  The issues are more unknown and are still being discovered.  Parts and service on new equipment may also be more difficult to find because technicians aren’t as familiar with new models and parts are still be used in manufacturing original units.
Rest assured with refurbished medical equipment.  It does the exact same job that a new piece does at up to fifty percent cheaper.  Although there is never a guarantee that equipment will fail the chance of failure remains the same between the two options.  The process of refurbishing medical equipment is incredibly thorough.  Highly skilled, trained Biomedical Professionals work to restore each piece of equipment back to its original form.  Refurbished equipment including linear accelerators aren’t put on the market to be sold until it has gone through arduous testing, assessments, and has  support documentation detailing the unit meets the original manufacturers standards.
There are a number of benefits when it comes to purchasing and using refurbished medical equipment although the most obvious are the cost savings and ability to obtain replacement parts and service quickly.  You can find suppliers of refurbished medical equipment, parts and services online today.
