Should I Replace or Upgrade My LINAC System?

Having a shiny LINAC system in your clinic entitles you to benefits and services other clinics lacking this technology do not. Such a system is imperative when dealing with minute cancer situations and can not only give the medical staff an edge but also give patients a guarantee of quality others cannot. That said, a proper LINAC system is, quite obviously, not a cheap system to not only implement initially but maintain over time. At one point a clinician or technician may decide the time has come to upgrade to what’s best out there, but such a decision is not so black and white. This article should briefly outline why so.

What Do You Have?

When making the decision to upgrade, you have to look at what you have already implemented. What you have may actually be satisfactory despite being old. LINAC systems themselves are as pricy as one may expect but are also modifiable with different parts that make up the whole. Linear accelerators can be classified as defined by their part status. Essentially, your linear accelerator can be classified from older and lacking upgrades, through newer but lacking and older and possessing upgrades, to newer and possessing upgrades. Where your system lies on the spectrum indicates whether or not making upgrades is worth the cost when considering the competency.

What is Your Budget?

Depending on the overall budget and success of your clinic you may find it smarter to simply upgrade certain parts on your older LINAC system. If money is no object you can naturally swap out your system – even if it’s new – for a newer, more modern and up-to-date model. Having an infinite source of funds is most likely not the case for most clinics, so you must take budget into effect and decide if your system is old enough to really warrant a true upgrade. Remember, upgrading certain parts of your system will always be cheaper than an outright replacement, and going with used upgrades is still a viable and more cost-effective option.

Do You Have Time?

When replacing a LINAC system completely, time is of great importance. Upgrading certain parts on a system can take hours and can be done overnight, but swapping out an entire system can take much, much longer. Are you able to survive with such an important machine out of the office for so long? If your system isn’t too old and has competent upgrades, then it can be hard to justify that absence. Any experienced clinician understands his or her own office enough to know whether or not that absence is detrimental to overall clinic success.

Four Common Cancer Treatments

Cancer is a truly awful disease that claims countless lives up and down the globe, every single day. As horrible as the disease is, the good news is that we are finally beginning to win the war against cancer, as for the first time in history, more people diagnosed with the disease, are surviving as opposed to passing away. This is all because of the numerous cancer treatment methods and devices currently available to us.

When it comes to treating cancer, choosing an oncology equipment service company is vital as you must ensure your machines and devices are all in full working order. To help get a better idea of how we are now able to treat numerous cancers, below you will find a list looking at four of the most common cancer treatments currently being utilized in medical practices and hospitals all across the globe.

Chemotherapy – When people think of cancer treatment, generally it is chemotherapy that often springs to mind first. Chemotherapy is a type of therapy where specialist drugs are used in an attempt to destroy cancerous cells. The drugs literally poison and destroy the cells, but as they are so powerful, they do cause some pretty awful side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.

Radiation therapy – The reason why it’s so important for medical practices to find oncology equipment service company experts is because many cancer treatment devices rely on them to function correctly. Radiation therapy is another common cancer treatment which utilizes large dosages of radiation to destroy cancerous cells. Linear accelerator machines for example, use x-rays to shrink and destroy cancerous tumours located anywhere on the patient’s anatomy.

Thanks to the advanced technology, linear accelerators can be designed so that they target the cancerous tumours, without harming the healthy cells and tissues surrounding the tumour on the patient. Naturally you want these machines to be in full working order, which is why it’s so vital that you find a reliable oncology equipment service company.

Surgery – Another very common and effective cancer treatment is surgery. With cancer surgery, patients will undergo a specialist procedure in which a surgeon will carefully cut away cancerous cells and/or tumours from their body, to remove it and to prevent it from spreading any further. Many cancer removal surgeries are actually very straightforward and can be completed in a matter of minutes, requiring very little recovery time.

Immunotherapy – Immunotherapy is another example of a very common and effective cancer treatment that is designed to help the body fight cancer from within. With immunotherapy, the immune system of the patient will be used to help fight and destroy cancer from within. The human immune system is the human body’s natural defence against illness and disease; naturally, this can be a very effective treatment.

Things to Know About Radiotherapy

Cancer is a disease which currently affects more than 1 in 2 people, and it’s safe to say that this awful disease destroys lives up and down the world, every single day. Whilst we do look set to finally be winning the war against cancer, there is still a long way to go before we are fully victorious. Thanks to the huge advances in modern technology and modern medicine, currently the treatments used to combat cancer are advancing at an astonishing rate, and are looking more successful than ever.

Linear accelerator services are very highly sought after, due to the fact that radiotherapy is one very common and very effective method of treating cancer. But why are linear accelerator services so popular, and exactly how does radiotherapy work? Well, to help make things a little easier to understand, let’s take a look at a few key facts associated with linear accelerator services, and radiotherapy.

What are linear accelerators? – Linear accelerators, or LINAC machines, are specially created machines which utilize concentrated dosages of x-rays to attack and destroy cancerous tumours located within human bodies. The x-rays are emitted via microwave technology, and actually conform to the exact shape of the cancerous tumour of the patient, which helps ensure that surrounding tissue within the body is well protected.

Facts about radiotherapy – So, as you can see from the above, LINAC machines are very effective for treating cancer, so naturally, linear accelerator services are in very high demand. But do you really know all there is to know about radiotherapy? If not, then take a look at the following, as we now look at a few facts associated with radiotherapy:

Radiotherapy comes in multiple forms – Whilst the most common form of radiotherapy comes as x-rays, other forms include: superficial x-rays, electrons, and brachytherapy. The treatment works as x-rays are able to penetrate the skin and attack the cancerous tumours, destroying cancer cells and hopefully destroying the tumour in the process.

Radiotherapy can last weeks – The exact duration of your radiotherapy treatments will vary according to which form of cancer you may be suffering with, and how advanced it has become. Generally speaking however, most courses of radiotherapy treatments range from 2 weeks up to 4 weeks in total.

Side effects may not appear right away – While radiotherapy produces far fewer side effects than other treatments such as chemotherapy, there are some which may arise. What’s more, most side effects will not appear until several weeks later, after the final radiotherapy session has been completed.

Linear accelerators can be customized accordingly – With linear accelerator services, an oncologist will perform a CT scan and will then send info to the computer, telling it the shape and size of the cancerous tumour. Here, the x-rays will then conform to the exact shape and size of the tumour, and will then be beamed into the patient’s body, to attack the tumour, sparing the surrounding tissue.

Useful Tips for Purchasing a Linear Accelerator

Over the last couple of decades, modern medicine has advanced at a mind-blowing rate. As a result, for the first time ever, survival rates for cancer patients are higher than ever before. Of each person diagnosed with the disease, more people are surviving than losing their lives, and that is hugely encouraging. Cancer treatments are more advanced than ever, especially in terms of radiotherapy. Linear accelerators for example, save countless lives every single day.

If your practice doesn’t yet offer linear accelerator support, you should seriously think about changing things as soon as you can. Linear accelerators emit x-rays to target and destroy cancerous tumours, but purchasing these devices isn’t as simple as you may have thought. Making use of linear accelerator support is more important than ever, so here is a look at a few handy tips for purchasing a linear accelerator (LINAC) for your practice.

Do you want new or used? – As mentioned, LINAC devices are incredibly advanced, and they help save lives every single day. As you can probably imagine, these devices do not come cheap, so you will need to bear this in mind when you decide on which machine to purchase. Ideally for your practice, a brand new machine will be more reliable and may function slightly better too. However, do not think that refurbished LINAC devices should be avoided because if chosen correctly, they can be just as reliable as brand new ones, if not more.  The best part is that they can be purchased for a fraction of the price. Basically, look at your budget and requirements and decide on which machine would be best for your practice.

Speak to the experts – This is where it really pays to contact linear accelerator support, as they will be able to tell you everything you need to know about purchasing your first linear accelerator. Simply tell them the size of your practice, your rough budget, your specifications and requirements, and anything else you deem useful. What’s more, by contacting linear accelerator support, you can also ask questions and get a better understanding about how LINAC machines work, and which model would be best for your practice. Before purchasing any new machines, always speak to the experts first and see what they have to say on the matter.

Read online reviews – As LINAC machines are so popular, and so effective, they are being produced by companies all over the globe, so finding the right device for you can be tricky. With some many devices to choose from, if you are new to the whole LINAC experience, it can be tough knowing where to begin. Ideally you should take a look online and look for popular manufacturers and models of linear accelerator. Here, you should read real reviews left by people who have purchased them for their clinics etc, and see what they have to say. Ideally you want a device with a lot of positive feedback, so take your time, read reviews, and see what others have to say.

How to Find the Best Linear Accelerator Repair Company

Over the last decade or so, modern medicine has advanced at an astonishing rate and as a result of this, for the first time in history more people being diagnosed with various forms of cancer are thankfully surviving, as opposed to losing their lives. Linear accelerators have certainly played a key role in this and these machines are now commonplace in clinics, hospitals, and medical practices all over the globe.

Like most machines it’s important that you repair these devices. This is why linear accelerator repair services are now so highly sought after. The last thing you want is for any of your treatment devices in your clinic to suffer any form of malfunction whatsoever, so finding the best linear accelerator repair services, is essential. When you hire these repair experts however, you need to know that you’re hiring the best company you can find. To help make this process a little easier, below you will find a series of tips based upon finding the best linear accelerator repair services in your region.

Look into several companies – To ensure that your LINAC is in the best possible hands, ideally you will want to look into several companies before you commit to hiring anybody. Remember, there are a good few companies out there now specializing in LINAC repair, and like all businesses, some are better than others. The last thing you want is to find a company is unable to repair your machine, or worse still, find that they have caused further problems, so look into numerous companies in your area, and create a shortlist.

Browse their websites – Once you have a list of several companies specializing in linear accelerator repair, the next thing you should do is start narrowing down your hunt by browsing their websites. Take a look at their websites and see what you can find out. Ideally you should look at which services they provide, how long they have been in business, how much experience they have, which qualifications they have, and anything else that you may deem useful. If the site and company looks amateurish, or if they aren’t too experienced, you may wish to focus your attention onto another company.

Read reviews – The great thing about the web is the fact that people can now review pretty much anything, at any time, so you should be able to find reviews left by previous customers of the repair company in question. Take a look online and see what other medical facilities and treatment centres have to say about the repair company you’re looking into. If there are positive reviews, you’re on the right path, but if there are a fair few negative reviews, you may wish to steer clear as LINAC machines must always be in full working order due to the fact that they play such an important role in the cancer treatment world.

Don’t focus on price – As LINAC machines are so important, and potentially so dangerous, you must ensure that yours are in full working order, so you literally can’t afford to cut corners. If your machine picks up a fault, do not look for the cheapest repair service you can find, instead, look for the most experienced and most professional.

Buying a Refurbished Linear Accelerator

We all know how awful of a disease cancer is, we won’t dwell on that today. What we will focus on however, are the countless treatments and preventative methods which are now commonplace in everyday society that are designed to prevent, treat, and even destroy cancer once and for all. For cancerous tumours, linear accelerators, or LINACS, are incredibly effective. These machines concentrate high dosages of X-rays and fire them into cancerous tumours, to help break down and destroy cancerous cells, whilst making sure to spare any healthy tissue surrounding the affected area.

These machines are so effective in treating cancer and are needed to be functioning properly at all times.  Linear accelerator servicing companies are now more highly sought after than ever before.  The question remains though is it always best to go with a brand new model? If you are a fairly small practice, or if you’re just looking to cut back on spending, rather than buying a brand new model, you could instead go with a refurbished model instead. Here’s a look at a few reasons to go with a refurnished linear accelerators.

Cut back on spending – As you can probably guess, linear accelerators are highly sought after, and because of this, brand new models are very costly. These machines literally save lives, so you can imagine how much they may cost brand new. If you’re looking to expand your medical practice or if you just need to get your costs lower, refurbished linear accelerators will be ideal. You can purchase refurbished linear accelerators for considerably less than brand new ones, and if done correctly, they will work just as well, if not better, than brand new models.

Peace of mind – If you’re a small practice and only have one working machine, purchasing a refurbished model is very highly recommended for a number of reasons, including peace of mind. If for example, your current working machine decided to break down, if you have a second machine on site, this would serve as a fantastic back up and you would still be able to treat your patients, rather than deny them treatments which could potentially save their lives.

Grow your practice – Not only is it important to make use of linear accelerators for your patients, it’s also important to make use of these devices to help grow your practice. Remember, you are still a business and you subsequently will still need to grow and expand to help keep up with patient demand. If you have two or more working LINAC machines on site, you will be able to treat more patients at once, and will therefore be able to grow your practice and expand your business.

Improve other aspects of your business – When you purchase refurbished linear accelerators, you are also helping to improve other aspects of your business. You see, when you save money on this machine, you will free up more money to go into other parts of your practice, subsequently improving it as a result.

Intricate machinery can be unpredictable at times. Often, it is not easy to identify problems and it can take days to restore its function. However, a linear service specialist with quick thinking can either determine the problems soon or provide an alternative solution that will work for the time being. It is important to restore these systems as quickly as possible because they are responsible for the health of many cancer patients.

Associated with an Organization

Instead of hiring a separate individual who specializes in this field, it is better to hire the help of a professional company that provides such engineer. Such companies have more credibility and reliability as compared to individuals. Advantages Of Refurbished Medical Equipment

There are a number of advantages that medical facilities will benefit from when buying refurbished medical equipment and supplies over brand new.
Of course the very first advantage seen with buying refurbished linear accelerators or CT scanners or any large scaled item is that it will save you money!  With the cost of large scaled medical equipment reaching easily into the millions we are talking about a significant savings.  A new linear accelerator can costs between three and four million dollars.  Buying a refurbished unit, even at a thirty percent discount saves the facility one point two million dollars.  That is a huge savings!
The one major concern many facilities have is that the savings they are seeing in buying a refurbished unit will be spent on serving the unit.  The truth is that refurbished equipment is just as reliable as brand new equipment with one advantage.  If a refurbished machine breaks down parts and service are more readily available.  Older units are easier to find parts for than newer units simply because they have been around longer.
Manufacturers have become familiar what parts on certain models are more susceptible to needing to be replaced or serviced.  Whereas brand new equipment just being introduced to the market has yet to establish issue that may arise.  In many cases new equipment diagnosis takes longer than refurbished equipment.  The issues are more unknown and are still being discovered.  Parts and service on new equipment may also be more difficult to find because technicians aren’t as familiar with new models and parts are still be used in manufacturing original units.
Rest assured with refurbished medical equipment.  It does the exact same job that a new piece does at up to fifty percent cheaper.  Although there is never a guarantee that equipment will fail the chance of failure remains the same between the two options.  The process of refurbishing medical equipment is incredibly thorough.  Highly skilled, trained Biomedical Professionals work to restore each piece of equipment back to its original form.  Refurbished equipment including linear accelerators aren’t put on the market to be sold until it has gone through arduous testing, assessments, and has  support documentation detailing the unit meets the original manufacturers standards.
There are a number of benefits when it comes to purchasing and using refurbished medical equipment although the most obvious are the cost savings and ability to obtain replacement parts and service quickly.  You can find suppliers of refurbished medical equipment, parts and services online today.

Proper Medical Equipment Maintenance

The rate at which hospitals are seeing patients continues to grow each and every year.  In order to continue to compete against one another hospitals must maintain state of the art facilities and equipment.  From simple procedures to complex surgeries, patients expect the highest level of patient care available. Physicians and patients alike rely on medical equipment to be in working order for proper diagnosis and treatment.
In order to maintain a high level of care medical facilities must rely on independent medical service companies for proper equipment maintenance and repair.  With regular checks and balances performed on medical equipment, proper repairs can be made right away allowing for fewer mistakes.  Regularly scheduled equipment maintenance and repairs help save time, money, and lives.
The number one concern of any hospital or equipment manufacturer is patient safety.  As part of a quality control routine, hospitals and medical equipment manufacturers regularly calibrate and test machines.  Strict calibration and testing on medical equipment helps with quality control measures, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.  This also helps to increase the longevity on medical equipment such as linear accelerators and ct scanners.
Another vital part in making sure medical equipment is running at its peak performance and is producing accurate results is routine maintenance.  Regular machine maintenance guarantees accuracy in patient diagnosis and treatment.  It is crucial to perform medical equipment maintenance routinely and not just when machines break down.  With annual machine calibration services, routine maintenance and timely repairs medical equipment is sure to run at peak levels and yield accurate life saving results.
Medical imaging displays are becoming critical in displaying fast and reliable test results.  The displays must reproduce images properly while displaying subtle differences.  As a display age’s clarity may diminish.  To ensure the accuracy of the grayscale and ensure the highest level in patient care routine medical equipment calibration must be done.  Keeping the gray scale accurate on image displays allows physicians to make accurate diagnosis.  This can be done by performing regularly scheduled maintenance and calibration.
Medical monitor displays are highly important in the medical community.  It is important that they are displaying images appropriately to avoid difficulty in reading images and prevent misdiagnoses.  Medical display systems must be monitored, maintained and calibrated on a regular basis to guarantee uniformity in test results.  Don’t rely on self-calibrating systems as they do not account for overall uniformity.
To be certain nurses and physicians alike are able to treat patients appropriately it is crucial the medical equipment such as linear accelerators and ct scanners go through frequent calibration updates and routine maintenance and repairs.

The Process Of Buying A Linear Accelerator

It takes a great deal of forethought when purchasing any large piece of medical equipment, especially a linear accelerator.  The process of buying medical equipment should be left to an experienced team of experts.  It takes a great deal of planning and commitment to quality in order to ensure the equipment purchased meets your facilities exact needs.
Each of these three elements: an experienced team, commitment to quality and detailed planning all make for successful purchasing of a linear accelerator or other large pieces of medical equipment.  When you begin researching linear accelerators there are a number of things to take into account including: the facilities budget, the actual cost of the equipment, operating costs and the facilities objectives.
Linear accelerators are an essential piece of equipment for a radiation oncology department to successfully treat clients.  This piece of machinery allows for a complete patient treatment plan to be provided. Although necessary the purchase of such large scaled medical equipment can be complex and expensive.  Purchasing used or refurbished LINAC machines over brand new equipment allows medical facilities a more reasonably priced manner in which to accumulate pieces; thus allowing them to continue bringing unparalleled care to their patients.
Your facilities needs and budget will help to define whether you should be looking into new, used or refurbished linear accelerators.  In smaller medical facilities purchasing used or refurbished equipment may offer you the best of both worlds: superb patient care along with profitability.  Refurbished linear accelerators are also a good option for facilities needing LINAC technology at a reasonable cost such as vet clinics, industrial users, research facilities and other non-medical uses.
There are many benefits to purchasing a refurbished linear accelerator for your facility.  It allows you to offer a service that may not have been previously offered which in turn allows your business to grow.  If your facility already offers radiation services, purchasing a refurbished linear accelerator allows you to service more patients and offer a backup in case one of the systems should fail.  It also allows for machines to be maintained and serviced without affecting the patient’s treatment plan.
Independent suppliers and service companies dedicated to selling and servicing refurbished linear accelerators and CT scanners are available to facilitate your purchase from start to finish.  They will assist your team of experts in creating a detailed plan considering physical building and room constraints as well as power and plumbing issues.  With your budget and timeline in mind they will help find refurbished equipment that meets your facilities needs.
From finding a machine from a preferred manufacturer, a machine that will meet or exceed your longevity needs, to obtaining equipment without unnecessary accessories and upgrades, the teams at Acceletronics and Radparts will help you find a refurbished linear accelerator or ct scanner that fits your facilities needs.

Success In Expanding Medical Facilities

Medical facilities are in a constant state of growth.  Centers that continue with the status quo path become stagnant.  It is imperative, for services to continue, that facilities keep up with the changing treatment options technology offers patients.  Refusing to keep pace with changing technology will inevitably cause your medical center to crumble.  In order to thrive and be successful in your endeavors your goal must remain steadfast; you must offer patients an unwavering commitment to the quality of patient care through trained staff and up to date equipment.
As a hospital or clinic continues to increase the services they provide they will most likely encounter the need to purchase large scaled equipment like linear accelerators and ct scanners.  Medical machinery is not mass produced and therefore each piece of equipment will have its own unique set of quirks.  With most facilities purchasing refurbished medical equipment, parts and supplies a review of the machines service history can be quiet telling.  Take a close look into what services have been performed and the frequency of service.
After this step is complete the next step is to analyze how the machine was previously utilized.  In linear accelerators each system has a set number of hours beams can expect to perform.  Reviewing this will allow you to see just how much the equipment has been used therefore allowing you to make certain estimations about its future.
The final step before making any purchase is to perform a physical inspection of the piece of equipment you are looking to purchase.  When performing the inspection you can get a detailed look at the machine.  It is also the time when you can ask questions regarding the systems usage on a daily basis.  This is crucial in learning the machines idiosyncrasies prior to using it in your own facility.
When budgeting for the purchase of a used or refurbished linear accelerator one of the main concerns should be the overall cost of owning and operating the machine.  When a machine is refurbished it is either done so for mechanical and/or cosmetic purposes.  Linear accelerators that have been refurbished operate as good as new LINAC.  Ask the seller for a detailed service report that includes all of the services that were performed before and during the refurbishing process.  Decipher what parts on the equipment have been replaced.  Were they replaced with new or refurbished parts?  Understand the warranty for both the machine and components to determine what you will be responsible for verse what is covered if the machine should fail in the future.

You Don’t Have To Compromise When Choosing Medical Equipment

In order to run a competent medical facility such as a hospital, diagnostic health center or pharmacy you must not only have a solid team of professionals but also top notch medical equipment.  Without the right equipment and staff in position to operate them it is likely that your facility will be bypassed by patients looking for top quality care.
When medical facilities are looking to choose equipment they should never compromise.   A professional team should be established to check into the right parameters and purchase the top equipment and devices that can be purchased within their budget.  Often times a way that this can be done without breaking the facilities budget is with the purchase of refurbished medical equipment.  The choices available within the market should be examined thoroughly.
The difference between life and death can come down to the equipment that a facility chooses to purchase.  Purchasing a quality piece of equipment is something that facilities should never ignore.  The best product is one that often is backed by a top brand name.  Often times the price tag which comes with these top brand name products will break the facilities budget for medical equipment.  What is important is that facilities seek to get the best quality equipment at the best price even if it means purchasing refurbished medical equipment.
It is important to know the supplier in which you are purchasing medical equipment from.  Without a doubt, you should know that you are getting the best equipment at the best price.  Ask the supplier for referrals of clients that are currently using them to supply their equipment.  If you are interested in doing business with the supplier it is important to ensure that they take care of their existing customer base while building upon their business.  The more positive referrals you are given the more likely you are to be convinced that you are making the right decision when it comes to who will supply your medical equipment now and in the future.
The cost of medical equipment will always be a factor in the decision making process.  Suppliers should offer competitive pricing for the quality of equipment being purchased.  The value if your dollar should be equivalent to the value of the equipment you are receiving.  Never compromise on the quality of the medical equipment you purchase, it is crucial in the treatment of your patients and the quality of their care.
Another important factor to consider is the care you will receive after the sale.  The after sales support and service received is of the utmost importance when choosing the right supplier to purchase your medical equipment from.  Complex medical equipment must be serviced properly to increase its longevity.  It is crucial that when choosing a supplier to purchase medical equipment that your medical facility take the above into consideration to ensure the best possible results for your facility.

Choosing A Reliable Company To Purchase New and Refurbished Medical Equipment From

Medical facilities that are looking to buy new or refurbished medical equipment are presented with a task that seems quite overwhelming.  To find quality equipment and supplies for your medical practice or hospital it is important to find a reliable company to work with.  A company that will supply new and refurbished equipment while linking with a superior maintenance and repair support center is something all medical facilities look for.
Consider the following questions prior to selecting a company to work with in purchasing new and refurbished medical equipment and supplies.
  • When purchasing equipment and supplies from your company what is the price difference between buying new and refurbished medical equipment?
  • Are there features on the equipment that are not needed that we are paying additional for?
  • How long has your company been doing business with medical facilities? Do you have recent referrals that we can speak with that have bought new and refurbished medical equipment?  What do you offer to your clients that make you a more reputable supplier than other companies in the industry?
  • What is the process that is followed to refurbish medical equipment?
At times it will be a more realistic to buy new medical equipment over refurbished.  Sometimes the price difference will not be enough of a difference to merit purchasing refurbished equipment over new.  Some products like step stools, bed pans and stainless steel supplies don’t save enough in the long run for it to be necessary to consider buying refurbished.  Purchasing these items new will guarantee the cosmetic and operational functions without affecting longevity.
Other times, when purchasing larger pieces of equipment such as operating tables, stretchers, patient monitors and such the savings may be quite significant in purchasing refurbished over new.  The savings have been known to be upwards of fifty percent.  When looking at the overall expense of larger medical equipment like linear accelerators and ct scanners the savings can be quite substantial.
Be wary of purchasing refurbished equipment is paying for features that your facility does not need.  If your facility has a policy against treating patients with a body weight over five hundred pounds then a surgical table rated for a thousand pounds would be useless.  A quality supplier will understand what you need and will not try to sell you a product that does not fit that need.  Suppliers of medical equipment, new and refurbished, are in the business to build relationships not to rip clients off by selling them equipment with features that are unneeded.

Refurbished Medical Equipment Is A Solid Choice For Your Budget

Medical facilities seeking to purchase top brand name equipment should look to suppliers selling and servicing refurbished medical supplies.  Choosing new or refurbished medical equipment for your facility is n undertaking that should be overseen by an expert task force.  Finding a company to supply and service your medical equipment is quite a task.  Refurbished equipment can be as reliable as brand new medical equipment at a fraction of the cost of the original, name brand piece.
When looking into buying new or refurbished equipment there are a few questions that medical facilities should ask medical equipment suppliers when considering a purchase.  The first thing to discuss is the price difference between new and refurbished medical equipment.  It is also crucial to discuss exactly what the facility needs to avoid purchasing equipment that has a number of features that are not needed.   Speak to referrals to make sure that you are purchasing from a reputable company.  Discuss with the supplier the special needs of purchasing refurbished equipment.
There are sometimes when purchasing refurbished equipment is not necessarily that much of a cost savings to your facility.  Items that are stainless steel, step stools and such just don’t save that much over new.  Purchasing these items new will allow for the same or better life span without forgoing cosmetic or operational pitfalls.  Larger items like linear accelerators, tables to perform operations, monitors and such can offer a significant savings when comparing between the cost of new and refurbished medical equipment and supplies.  Some refurbished medical suppliers can save facilities upwards of fifty percent of buying new.
When buying medical equipment that is new facilities often end up paying for features that are not needed.  Some that is completely useless. What is more important when purchasing medical equipment is that it comes equipped with the features you will need and use.  A reputable supplier of refurbished medical equipment and supplies should have distinct knowledge of what your company is in need of and what fits your medical centers needs.
A reputable company that sells refurbished medical equipment will never try to oversell you.  Well established refurbished medical suppliers are around for reasons other than ripping off medical facilities.  Companies that you will want to work with don’t try to oversell you because they have abundance of a certain unit or because of an increased profit margin. They will sell you equipment based on your facilities needs and desires.

Step By Step Cancer Treatment Planning

There are many steps that need to be taken in the treatment of cancer.  With advancements in technology and the use of equipment such as CT scanners and linear accelerators cancer is more treatable than ever before.  The treatment of cancer varies slightly depending on the type of cancer being treated however the steps involved in the process remain virtually the same throughout.
Consultation: When a patient is first diagnosed with cancer and radiation is needed patients will make an appointment to meet with a radiation oncologist for a consultation.  During this visit the patient’s medical history will be reviewed at great lengths.  Recommendations will be discussed so that a plan for radiation treatment can be formed.
Simulations:  The next step involved in radiation therapy as part of a treatment plan for cancer is simulation.  This is the visit in which patients will be positioned for treatment.  It is important that treatment positioning is done to determine how the body should lay during treatment to best target the tumor.  Often immobilization devices are designed to mold to a patient to allow them to easily be positioned for treatment.  Medical immobilization devices are not always needed for radiation therapy.
During simulations x-rays and CT scans are performed to compare the tumors location to the location of the healthy tissue surrounding it.  Often times contrasting material is used to allow technicians to visualize certain landmarks that would not otherwise be visible.  These are removed after the x-ray is taken and in their places small markings are left on the skin to allow visual representation for treatment the following day.
Planning: Radiation oncologists, physics staff and dosimetrists are all three linked in the treatment planning process. Radiation oncologists design the field for treatment using the x-ray images that were obtained during the simulation process.  The physics staff is in charge of shaping the radiation beams that are to be used in treatment to prevent the healthy tissue from being damaged while targeting the cancerous tumor.
Along with computer technology the dosimetrist and radiation oncologist work together to determine the best dose of radiation for the treatment field selected.  This process may take more than one visit.  The goal being that each day the same treatment field is receiving the needed radiation without damaging healthy, surrounding tissues while not over treating the tumor.
Treatment:  Radiation treatments themselves do not hurt.  It is however crucial to have the patient remains completely still throughout the entire treatment process which often can be difficult.
Typical Treatment Day:  During treatment the radiation patient will check in at the reception desk.  They will then be escorted into the treatment room where the clothing that is covering the area that is to be treated is uncovered.  Patients are made comfortable, shielding is set in place, therapists place the linear accelerator and the appropriate does is given.  Once this is complete the patient is free to leave.
Side Effects of Radiation:  The most common side effects in radiation therapy are exhaustion, loss of energy and skin tenderness.  Most often skin irritation only occurs at the area where the treatment is being administered.  Other side effects such as hair loss, sore throat, coughing, nausea and vomiting can occur but are not as common.  It is good to note that most side effects will usually resolve themselves in four to six weeks after completing treatment.
Aftercare: In any surgery or procedure the support before and during are as equally as important as the support and care the patient receives after.  A crucial element in the recovery process after radiation therapy is to keep you radiation oncologist keyed in on changes to your health.  It is also important that the patient stay on track with the scheduled treatment plan to avoid having a negative impact on the outcome goal.
